The Journey Begins – An introduction

Thanks for joining me!

Good company in a journey makes the way seem shorter. — Izaak Walton

Let me introduce myself in case we haven’t met yet.

It is my firm conviction that if decent, capable ‘ordinary’ people are not prepared to step up to the task, then politics is truly broken, so here I am.

I joined the Liberal Democrats in 2017, standing that year for Council Election in Banff out of extreme frustration with our Tory and SNP elected representatives.

In a time already overwhelmed by Theresa May’s snap election, I was pipped by 10 SNP votes at my first go. Nothing daunted, I’m now standing as Lib Dem Candidate for the Banffshire and Buchan Coast.

Born and brought up in Sutherland, I have lived and worked in North East Scotland all my adult life. Descended from four generations of country doctors, I’ve spent my life in public service – a sculptor in the public realm, then CEO of a community-owned Development Trust, then as a business planner and fundraiser, raising in excess of £7 million for local causes, charities and businesses all over this area.

I’ve also Chaired two Arts Organisations and a Home Care Charity, worked as a baker, cleaner and census enumerator.

Over a period of 20 years, I have consulted, researched, advised and led on many and various shared enterprises, from Urological Cancer Care Facilities in Aberdeen, to Community Transport and Harbour Boards in Aberdeenshire, an immense privilege for me – with many enduring successes.

I’ve personal experience of supporting people close to me with serious mental illness, and dementia – and I’m determined that, in the febrile climate of Brexit and discontent with the Union, the services we’ll need in the years to come will be solid and effective. I’ve surely counted on them.

Armed with the facts and a cause, I’m very hard to ignore.

I can make a difference. And if not in 2021, in the years to come, because I will not stop trying.

Give me your vote.

I will stand up for this place, our people, our jobs and our services, for Scotland and all who need our help.

I will do my best to make you proud.

With all good wishes,

Alison
